Raindrops on Roses

Our first night in Arizona Lucas was less than pleased with having a new home. He spent all evening slamming doors with all the three-year-old might he could muster to express his displeasure with our new place. He’d slam a door and then stand within my view making sure I understood he did not want to be here. I was really worried that this transition was going to be hard for him. But, no kidding, the next morning we woke up and EVERYTHING was better. Arizona was fun. He liked his new room. He loved being reunited with long packed away toys. He stopped asking OVER and OVER again when we were going back to our house. He and his sister even started to pray with gratitude for being able to live here.

And then there is me. I like being here more than I anticipated, but moving still is hard and I can’t say I have adjusted quit so quickly. I keep on finding myself thinking:

I miss all the parks in Denver.

I miss the trees in Ann Arbor.

I miss the diversity in Palo Alto.

And don’t even get me started on the people. Oh you people out there, so far away that I love so much. You really are making my life so hard at this moment. Maybe I just need to go slam a few doors.

But then I am reminded of a few things:

How good this place is for my family;

How much my husband is enjoying his new job;

How nice it is to create a fresh start to motherhood with less outside distraction;

And how blessed I am to have Reed, Lucas, and Lilly with me on this crazy adventure.

And I really can’t imagine myself anywhere else.
